NAFDAC CLOSES DOWN UNLICENSED HERBAL FACILITY IN KADUNA

On Friday, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) shut down an unlicensed herbal medicine manufacturing site in Kaduna State.

The sealed facility, identified as SHIFA’UNNUR, is situated in Mararaba Jos, within Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

According to Shamsuddeen Mani, a Principal Regulatory Officer of NAFDAC who led the operation, the closure was due to the facility’s failure to comply with basic operational standards.

He further noted that the facility had no registration, violating regulatory requirements.

Mani revealed that the agency, acting on reliable intelligence, discovered the unregistered site producing various herbal products without authorization.

“We promptly responded to the credible information and shut down an illegal herbal medicine plant in Mararaba Jos,” he stated.

“It is disturbing that the equipment used in the concealed and unhygienic operation were of poor quality. Such products endanger public health since their safety, effectiveness, and quality cannot be assured,” he said.

Mani disclosed that unregistered products valued at N5 million were confiscated and would be destroyed, while the premises remain sealed for further investigation.

He emphasized that NAFDAC, legally mandated to protect public health, would persist in tracking down offenders and cracking down on regulatory violations and unethical practices.
